Interview with Jean-Luc Rousseau of EADS/Airbus
What is
Toulouse
's role within EADS/Airbus?
Two main activities:
-
Research
Center
for the Airbus and ATR product ranges.
- Aircraft assembly:
Toulouse
is where final assembly takes place, with parts being brought in from all over
Europe
.
Information Technology plays an essential role in this industry.
You manage an NT server fleet. How many servers do you have at the
Toulouse
site?
About 100 servers shared between half a dozen departments. These include application servers and print servers but primarily file servers.
What was the initial reason for the installation of Sysload?
The number of NT, servers and clients keeps growing mainly due to the replacement of 6000 of our Macintosh with NT clients. We therefore found ourselves with an increasingly complex NT architecture and not enough tools to manage it. We got a workgroup together to define priorities, including performance management.
What did you like about Sysload?
First of all, it's simplicity. We wanted fast implementation. Cost was also a fundamental factor in the quick decision making. The speed of the deployment and installation of Sysload meant that it only took a few minutes. The actual running of the product is very quick and the intuitive GUI of the product saves us a lot of time.
We also wanted a tool that provided both real-time (Immediate identification of an eventual problem) and historical information. By evaluating different metrics, we were able to come up with a monthly score for each server which allowed us to anticipate any corrective action.
How would you like to see Sysload develop?
ISM compatibility would be very useful for us.
Since the initial order from EADS/Airbus Toulouse, EADS/Airbus Saint-Nazaire have also chosen to implement Sysload. Many other Group sites will follow.
